Weather gurus have sounded off on the potential for another storm to wallop Ireland in the coming weeks.
Echoing the latest weather forecasts, there’s a shout that strong gales might prance back into our lives within the next fortnight, with the dates between December 15 to 25 earmarked as potential days for the windy guest’s arrival. Yet, the sheer power of the impending gusts has the experts split on whether we should brace for another named disturbance.
This brewing tempest comes hot on the heels of Storm Darragh, which recently ripped through Ireland and Britain, triggering a kaleidoscope of red, orange, and yellow alerts. In a fresh twist, The Weather Outlook piped up on Sunday, warning: “Nothing too concerning showing up yet, but I *think* we need to keep an eye on the period between 15 – 25 December for strong winds.”
And in another nugget of wisdom, they said: “Most of the MOGREPS-G 06Z runs show a more changeable or unsettled pattern returning by mid Dec. A minority keep high pressure dominant. A big spread develops >12/12 with some runs going very cold for a time, but eventually most are mild.”
Meanwhile, another wheeler-dealer in the meteorology game, Anthony’s Storm World, took to the social media stage with their take: “Too far off and to far away even if models are correct at this range, storm looks likely to be near North Norway. Just a tight pressure gradient across the UK due to high pressure being close. But no storm. 16th along way off too.”, reports Galway Beo.
The current forecast is bringing cold days to Dublin. Met Eireann says: “Frost will clear quickly on Monday to leave a mostly dry day with low winter sunshine occurring widely. However, there will be more in the way of cloud across parts of east Leinster with some showers feeding in off the Irish Sea. Fairly cold with highest afternoon temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees, in light to moderate northeasterly breezes.
“Tonight will be cold and dry with a possible slight frost, along with chance some areas of mist or fog. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees, in a light to moderate northeasterly breeze.”
As for Tuesday that’s when the minus temperatures will begin to creep in overnight. More of the same conditions are expected during the day but come night time it’ll drop as low as -3C.
Met Eireann continued: “Any overnight frost and fog will clear on Tuesday. Dry with a mix of cloud and bright low winter sunshine across the region – dullest closer to the East Coast. Cold and calm with highest temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees.
“Dry and calm on Tuesday night with a widespread sharp frost and icy stretches; areas of fog too. Lowest temperatures of -3 to zero degrees.”
